February: Out & About

Candle holders styled by my mom!

For this month’s fun finds, I found myself inside of a store that I never go into anymore – World Market! My mom and I were doing a little shopping this past weekend and we stopped in our favorite home decor stores: Target and Homegoods. But, there’s a World Market in the same area and we thought, why not? Sometimes I find that World Market can be a little too boho and exotic for my taste, but I found some super cute finds. And who doesn’t love a home goods store that sells alcohol and hard-to-find overseas candy?!

Plant found here. Similar planter found here.

World Market has great faux greenery. I loved the look of this faux fiddle leaf fig. The quality was great and the planter it’s paired with is equally as great. I was drawn to the modern look of it with its skinny brass legs. The faux fern in the navy and white planter is also adorable. I think it would look good on an outdoor table. I may have to go back and buy it so I can be ready whenever the warmer weather arrives in Ohio!

I still can’t get enough of large woven baskets. They can be used for so many different things: blankets, plants, toys. World Market had a great selection of baskets in different sizes and colors. I would definitely check out their selection if you’re looking for an affordable basket option.

Planter found here.
Planters found here.

These planters are gorgeous! I love the small, geometric vase with the gold accents. If you haven’t noticed, I have a thing for white/gold! What I like about the small planter is that you could drop a small faux succulent inside or actually pot a real plant. The larger terracotta cement planters are also versatile. How cute would these look indoors with a large faux banana leaf plant or outdoors filled with colorful flowers? Love!

I was immediately drawn to this live edge coffee table. I like the mixture of the warmth of the wood and the industrial modern touch with the black metal hairpin legs. I’ve seen a lot of live edge tables trending for decor lately and I’m in total agreement!

Light found here.

The beading is so fun on this lighting fixture but the neutral color makes this funky light work with a variety of decor styles. I think it would look perfect in a breakfast nook, nursery, or over a dining table. I have been lusting after a similar light from Pottery Barn, so I was excited to find this one. While not cheap, the World Market version of this light is much more affordable than its pricey Pottery Barn cousin.

Tell me the colors of these little bowls aren’t beautiful? The blush pink and dove gray are so soft and muted. I don’t necessarily know that I’d buy the full dining set (although World Market does sell it) because I think it would be a little much, but I would definitely scoop up a couple of the bowls to use for entertaining in the Spring!

World Market has a great selection of elegant soaps and lotions. I love the glass bottles and the lettering on the labels. While I enjoy a Bath and Body Works soap as much as the next girl, their packaging isn’t always the chicest. These are a much cleaner and less kitschy option.

I’m usually loyal to Rugs USA for almost all of the rugs in my home, but World Market had some really cute rugs. The texture and pattern of this rug is verging on a little too boho for my taste, but I had Spring on the brain while I was shopping and could envision this outside under a grouping of patio furniture.

Speaking of outdoor furniture, I was really digging these chairs. The olive nautical rope fabric was unique and I thought it looked great with the light colored wood. World Market displayed the chairs with a large mahogany outdoor table and I thought the rug I linked above would look great underneath.

Finally, this cactus print just spoke to me! I don’t know if it was the colors or the print itself, but I loved this. I’m not entirely sure where – if anywhere – this would work in my home, but if you have a space for this in yours, head to World Market and snag this. The frame is a brushed gold and the print itself is canvas. Again, I clearly had warmer weather and outdoor living on my mind while roaming World Market!

It’s always fun to revisit a store that you haven’t been to in a while. I also didn’t realize what a great selection their website has, too! I’ll have to add World Market into my home decor shopping rotation!

My New Favorite Nook

Is it unhealthy to be obsessed with a chair? Because I totally am. This chair is everything that I wanted: soft, buttery leather, gorgeous rum color, modern shape, and – bonus – it’s on a swivel! This is now my new favorite spot in my home. But, let’s back up to how this little nook looked before.

Since we moved into this house in July 2017, this is what this corner has looked like: a woven basket for blankets and a large clear vase with some sort of seasonal greenery inside. I always liked the way the corner looked, but I was forever on the hunt for an armchair. I knew that I wanted a chair of some sort there, but I had to find the right one since the space isn’t huge. I’m also big on not having rooms look too crowded, so I wanted to find something that didn’t have a large footprint.

A few weeks ago, Nick & I popped into Arhaus Loft. If you’ve never heard of Arhaus Loft, let me introduce you to the best-kept secret in Northeast Ohio. Unfortunately, it’s a one-of-a-kind store (there is, however, a smaller Loft location near Columbus) with no online order system, so if you’re not local, I’m sorry that you’re missing out! The Loft is the warehouse outlet to high-end furniture maker, Arhaus. On any given day, the inventory changes, so you’ll never know what gems you’re going to find. The prices aren’t exactly cheap, but they are at a steep discount from what you’d find at Arhaus.

I knew what kind of chair I wanted for this little nook — a warm, light brown, un-tufted leather that trended more modern and less traditional. Like I said, you never know what you’re going to find at Arhaus Loft and you never know if what you’re looking for will even exist in this giant warehouse. When we walked in, we began to take a lap around the place and about twenty minutes in, found this beauty. Not only was the design of the chair important, but it had to comfortably fit my 6’3″ husband! From first glance, the chair looks small, but Nick fit comfortably and had zero complaints, so we took the chair home with us that day.

Floor lamp found here.
Pouf found here. Throw found here. It’s out of stock online, but can still be found at some Target locations.

Then I began my search to find the items to complete the corner. My vision was to have this be a little reading nook, so I needed an ottoman, a lamp, and small table to set my wine coffee. The first thing I bought was this lamp. I actually saw it on my trip to Target last month when I was compiling fun finds for my January: Out & About blog post. I loved the modern look of the clear globe and vintage-style bulb. The curved stand lent an interesting flair and screamed “reading nook” to me. Then, I found this pouf. I thought a traditional ottoman would look too bulky and so I wanted to find something smaller. I liked how the round shape of the pouf complemented the globe on the lamp. I’m also a sucker for texture, so the knit weave sold me.

End table found here.

Finally, I found this end table. It was a PROCESS trying to find the perfect small table. First I tried this C table, but it stuck out too much and wouldn’t slide underneath the chair’s swivel mechanism. I also loved this table, but Nick wasn’t a fan – he said it looked like a mushroom – and once he said that, that’s all I could think about when I looked at it! Finally, I landed on my current table. It’s a beautiful dark bronze color and has a nice heft to it. I was concerned that the metal ringed style wouldn’t be level or flat enough to set a cup on it, but I’ve had no problems.

I am so happy with how this little nook turned out! It gets the best late afternoon light as you can see in the photos above. Plus, it’s so nice to have another lamp since we have no overhead or recessed lighting in this room. I’ve never been the most patient person, but I’m glad I waited until I found the perfect chair to round out this room.

If you’re local, check out Arhaus Loft and let me know what you think. I’ll be sharing my full family room soon and you can see the other piece we scored from The Loft!

Kitchen Writing Desk – and a Huge Wayfair Sale !!

We all know how hard it can be to find exactly what you’re looking for when it comes to home furnishings. You stroll around a store or poke around online hoping to find that perfect piece. And aside from the hunt, another frustrating feeling is how much furnishings can cost! Enter Wayfair.com. If you’ve never visited Wayfair for home goods and furniture, you’re missing out. It’s the Google of the home furnishings world. Type any combination of descriptive words in the search bar and you’ll have so many home decor and furniture options at your fingertips.

In my galley-style kitchen, I have small nook with bay windows at one end. It was a challenge for me to decide what to do with the space since it’s not big enough for a small table and the area has the only heat register for the kitchen. I didn’t want to cover the vent and I didn’t want the space to feel cramped and cluttered.

Desk found here. Similar style here. Another great option.

So, as I often do, I turned to Wayfair. I found the perfect solution: a small writing desk. With the “x-leg” design and a width of just over three feet, the desk is not only modern, but keeps an unassuming, airy feeling in the small kitchen nook. There’s a drawer to stash any unsightly items and cubby shelves on either side of the desk for additional storage.

Chair no longer available. Similar style found here.

I paired the desk with this slim profile chair from Target. If I’m being honest, it’s not the world’s most comfortable chair, but I liked the contemporary look of it and how its minimalist shape didn’t add any significant volume to the small space. The matte black color also compliments the matte black hardware on the cabinets and drawer pulls in the kitchen. Speaking of hardware, I switched out the chrome knob that came with the desk and used one of the cabinet knobs to keep the look consistent throughout the kitchen.

The best thing about Wayfair is that there are so many options. You can filter your searches by price, dimensions, color, wood type, etc. If an item is out of stock, you can enter your email and Wayfair will notify you the second it’s back in stock. Another great feature is that you can create lists on the site and save items to your various lists when planning a project. I created the list below when planning out my master bedroom.

From now through February 19th, Wayfair is having a HUGE Presidents’ Day sale. Almost everything is up to 75% off and there’s free 2-Day shipping on orders over $49. If you’re in need of anything for your home and you’ve been unable to find that perfect piece, this is the time to check out Wayfair. This is not a sponsored post by any means; I just love Wayfair and wanted to share this amazing sale with you! Happy shopping!

January: Out & About

Each month, I thought it would be fun if I ventured out to some of my go-to stores for home decor and compiled my favorite finds into a blog post. This month, I took a trip to everyone’s favorite store: Target. I also popped into Homegoods, another favorite of mine, for a little inspiration. I’ve got to admit, I felt a little silly taking photos inside the store, but these are the lengths I go to for this blog !!

Blanket found here.

My first stop was Target. I didn’t go to the Target I usually go to — which in opinion has a MUCH better home selection — but this store was basically next door to Homegoods, so for convenience sake I popped in there. My favorite find, and the only item to come home with me, was this blanket I’ve linked above. I’m loving the tassels and the texture of this throw. It looks and feels much more expensive than the $14 that I paid for it!

Wood slice found here.

I actually have this exact wood slice in my home. It’s perfect if you need to add a little height to display a decorative item. It’s listed as a “serving platter” which I’ve not used it for, but I could see assembling a cheeseboard on it.

A few kitchen items that caught my eye: this wood and marble mug tree and trio of floral jars. I love an all white kitchen with pops of color and those canisters would fit that bill perfectly.

Chair found here. Pillow found here.

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t impressed with the current indoor home decor at Target, but I did see some items that I really liked. Both this wooden chair and the basketweave pillow are great finds. I love textured neutrals and you can’t go wrong with a classic shape of a Windsor chair.

Ceramic planter found here.

I am really into the stoneware planters and this large woven basket. I was thisclose to buying the basket and using it as a planter. Put a small plastic dish in the bottom for water, drop a snake plant inside, and you have a gorgeous arrangement that will last forever. I do NOT have a green thumb, and even I can keep a snake plant alive!

Speaking of snake plants, my next stop was Homegoods and I spotted this faux potted snake plant as soon as I walked in. You have to be careful with faux greenery; sometimes it can look and feel…well, faux. This one was good quality and and didn’t immediately scream “fake.”

I love the built-in charger on the white and gold cart. It would be perfect as an addition to a vanity in a small space. It would also look great in a home office. It’s hard to tell from the photo, but the piece is on casters — great for versatility!

This black wire hanging organizer is still at Homegoods. I bought it well over a year ago for my own home to use as a mail organizer. For its minimalist shape, it can surprisingly hold a lot of weight – i.e., magazines my husband never reads 😉

Similar style found here.

The last few things I found and loved at Homegoods are these chairs. I absolutely love the mustard color of the armchair. In the right home, it would add such a warm, bold pop of color. The periwinkle outdoor chair is an amazing find. The shape is so on trend and it’s $60. There’s chairs out there that are identical for more than double that price! And finally, this barstool. The color. The fabric. The gold legs. The back handle! Ugh. So chic. I wish I had an island in my kitchen. A couple of those would have came home with me without question!

All in all, my trip to Target and Homegoods gave me some good inspiration for freshening up my home and hopefully this post did the same for you!
